Wilfredo Hernandez the series hero? Who couldn't have predicted that? A Game 5 slugfest with Joe Kelly and Chris Kirwan on the mound? Not a chance!  Well, pitching be damned. St. Louis exploded for four in the 1st and four more in the 2nd to lead 8-0 in Brooklyn. With Brooklyn fans gasping in disbelief and the Bombers on their heels, a 63 minute rain delay gave Brooklyn time to gather themselves.  Down 8-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd and following the rain delay, Brooklyn fought back with three in the bottom of the 2nd and five in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game. St. Louis put up three runs in the top of the 5th on homeruns by Bruce Cusick and Chris Kyser to go up 11-8, and once again Brooklyn was in a hole.

The Bombers battled back again with one run in bottom half of the 6th and one more in the 8th.....then...with two outs in the bottom of the 9th and Jose Bautista on first, pinch hitter and backup outfielder Wilfredo Hernandez stepped up and delivered a Mark Melancon pitch into the left field bleachers for a game-winning two run bomb, to send Brooklyn to the ALCS with a 12-11 victory.
